On 12 March 2017, Representative Francis Kuo-Hsin Liang attended the memorial service organized by the United Chinese Library to commemorate the 152nd birth anniversary of Dr. Sun Yat Sen, founding father of the Republic of China. Others who attended include the senior adviser, adviser and commissioner from the Overseas Community Affairs Council, office bearers and members of the United Chinese Library and other officials from the Taipei Representative Office in Singapore. In a solemn ceremony, the group of over 70 persons paid their respects to a bronze bust sculpture of Dr. Sun.
In his address, Representative Liang stated that Dr. Sun Yat Sen, founder of Singapore’s United Chinese Library, was not only a democratic revolutionary of modern China but also the first provisional president of the Republic of China. Under his leadership, Asia’s first democratic republic – the Republic of China- was born. Dr. Sun promoted China’s modernization and his legacy is etched in the hearts and minds of the Chinese people, including those in Southeast Asia. In the late Mr. Lee Kuan Yew’s words, Dr. Sun was “the great man who changed China’s destiny”.
