Focusing on net-zero transformation, 2023 Taiwan-Malaysia Industrial Collaboration Summit kicks off in Taipei
In line with the promotion of the New Southbound Policy by the Ministry of Economic Affairs (MOEA) to further strengthen economic and trade partnerships and talent exchanges with South and Southeast Asian countries, the 7th. Taiwan-Malaysia Industrial Collaboration Summit was held in Taipei.

Co-hosted by the Chinese National Federation of Industries (CNFI) and the Federation of Malaysian Manufacturers (FMM), the 2023 Summit, going back offline after three years's covid lockdown, was held on October 18, 2023 at the Taipei International Convention Center. More than 170 guests coming from across industry, governmental agencies, academia and research institutes of both Taiwan and Malaysia have participated in this event.

Four distinguished guests including Vice Chairperson Mark Lin of CNFI,  Vice President Jacob Lee of FMM,  Deputy Director-General Pei-Li Chen,Industrial Development Administration of MOEA and President Puan Aznifah , Malaysian Friendship and Trade Center delivered their opening remarks and all of them are looking forward to more concrete and closer collaboration in industrial exchanges and cooperation between Taiwan and Malaysia to enhance jointly business opportunities in the post pandemic era.

This year's main forum focuses on the global issue: net-zero and decarbonization. Two keynote speeches were delivered by Dr. Tse-Chin Pan, Deputy Division Director of Energy Policy and Planning Division, Industrial Technology Research Institute, entitled "Taiwan's Energy Transition Policy and Net-Zero Strategy" and Dr. Wing-Thye Woo, Vice President for Asia, UN Sustainable Development Solutions Network, entitled

"Identifying Cost-Effective Pathways to Net-Zero Emissions in ASEAN" respectively.  Three sub-forums covering topics on textile, biotechnology for food, medicine and cosmetics, and smart city respectively provided opportunities for substantial industrial exchanges and business matching between industrialists and companies from both parties.

Deputy Director-General Chen of the IDA, MOEA emphasized that Malaysia has been promoting the development of tourism, electrical and electronics (E&E), global services, aerospace, creative industry ,halal foods and biomass industries in recent years. After the pandemic, all industries have accelerated their recovery, and the U.S.-China trade dispute has prompted the diversification of supply chains operated by Taiwanese businesses, leading to closer cooperation and exchanges between Taiwan and Malaysia.
 
Through the guidance of IDA, MOEA, the 2023 Summit witnessed the signing of  three MOUs, of which one is for the food, medicine and cosmetic industries, signed for the regenerative medicine technology cooperation between Taiwanese regenerative medicine   companies and the Malaysian Association for Cell Therapy in order to establish connection and promote Taiwan's biomedical products and technologies in Malaysia; another focus is for the smart city industry, aiming to cooperate in terms of using smart agriculture digital environmental control system, AI intelligent environmental control system and digital food safety platform as solutions; and the other is for the textile industry, signed for cooperation with Malaysian supply chains in smart and electronic textiles and increasing entry of Taiwan-made textiles into Malaysian and ASEAN markets.

The Taiwan-Malaysia Industrial Collaboration Summit is an important platform for deepening industrial linkage between two countries. It adheres to the principle of "industry-led and government-supported" to enable both parties to jointly welcome the global innovative economic opportunities in the post-pandemic era.
