The Council of Indigenous Peoples organized the 2022 Immersive Indigenous Language Teaching Kindergarten Project – International Conference today (October 20) at National Dong Hwa University. Through keynote speeches, group discussions, and sharing of experiences by domestic and international indigenous language and culture experts, the event aimed to create more substantial strategies and development for immersive indigenous language teaching. Over 100 people participated in the event.

Professor TIUN Hak-khiam from the Department of Chinese Language and Literature at National Taitung University was invited to deliver a speech on "Taiwan's National Language Policy and Education," sharing insights into language policy and educational reforms and developments in Taiwan as a multicultural nation. Under the theme of "Applying Traditional Knowledge to Immersive Teaching: Solutions and Practices," Daniel Procter, Co-Chair of the Te Kōhanga Reo National Trust Board, New Zealand, and Professor Jenny Ritchie from Victoria University of Wellington in New Zealand discussed the creation of immersive language teaching environments and lesson plan designs incorporating traditional knowledge. The practical exchange aimed to enhance awareness of the implementation of immersive teaching methods in immersive institutions, and share Taiwan's successful experiences in preschool indigenous language education with the international community.

To facilitate communication between attendees and foreign scholars, interpretation services in English and indigenous languages were provided during keynote speeches and discussions. The event emphasized the importance of respecting diverse national languages, including indigenous languages, in various domestic seminars and conferences by offering such services, thereby bringing indigenous languages into the mainstream.
