On December 9, Deputy Mayor Wang Ming-Jiuh of Taoyuan City attended the “New Immigrant Special Publication Launch Event and Multicultural Market.” Deputy Mayor Wang mentioned that Taoyuan has a population of about 66,000 new immigrants, among which those from Mainland China (including Hong Kong and Macau) make up the largest group. Additionally, there are over 20,000 new immigrant friends from Southeast Asian countries such as Thailand, Vietnam, and Indonesia. Therefore, Taoyuan is known for its cultural diversity, where everyone has settled and strives for a better life together. The hope is for various ethnic groups to coexist and thrive, fostering a city of love and harmony.

Deputy Mayor Wang also shared that two Vietnamese migrant workers, who met and fell in love while working in Taoyuan, were celebrating their marriage that day, and he was honored to be a witness for the new couple. The launch ceremony for the inaugural issue of Taoyuan City’s New Immigrant Special Publication was also held. The first issue featured three representative figures symbolizing Vietnam, Mainland China, and Indonesia.

Highlighting the city government’s dedication to the rights and development of new immigrants, Deputy Mayor Wang mentioned that since January 1, 2024, the newly established Department of Women and Children will incorporate the New Immigrants Affairs Section. This integration aims to ensure better cultural integration, educational opportunities, workplace guidance, and activities for new immigrants. This effort intends to create an environment where all new immigrant friends can deeply integrate into Taoyuan’s society, enabling them to receive better care and a more conducive environment for work and family life.
