The 2024 Taipei International Book Exhibition (TiBE) will open from Feb. 20 to 25 at the Taipei World Trade Center, featuring the Netherlands as the Guest of Honor. With the theme of “Catch the Reading Wave,” the TiBE invites readers to explore a splendid world of reading.

Deputy Culture Minister Lee Ching-hwi (李靜慧) noted that the year 1624 marked the beginning of Taiwan’s encounter with the world when the Dutch East India Company first arrived on the island. This year, with the Netherlands being invited to be the Guest of Honor, she said that a grand cultural re-encounter is going to unfold during the exhibition.

The Netherlands pavilion in TiBE is co-curated by the Netherlands Office Taipei and renowned Dutch Architecture Firm MVRDV, exhibiting the past, present, and future of the Netherlands and Taiwan according to three themes: 1624, Diversity and Inclusion, and Dutch Design and Sustainable Development.

Additionally, other country pavilions are also full of exciting programs. The Thailand pavilion will emphasize intercultural interactions through Thai literature, highlighting the concept of “borderless”; the Germany pavilion will commemorate the 100th death anniversary of Franz Kafka by exhibiting Chinese-translated works of the author.

Meanwhile, focusing on pictures and graphics, the France pavilion will organize a comic drawing and musical show on Feb. 24; the Belgium pavilion will present picture books and invite international illustrators to meet readers in Taiwan.
