Poland’s donation of 400,000 vaccine doses touching down Sept. 5 at Taiwan Taoyuan International Airport is sincerely appreciated by the government and people, according to the Ministry of Foreign Affairs.

At a time when most parts of the world are grappling with the delta variant and vaccines are in short supply, the generous gesture underscores Poland’s commitment to combating coronavirus with Taiwan, the MOFA said. It also serves as an inspiring example of democracies caring for and supporting one another in an hour of need, the ministry added.

The MOFA said when Europe was in the grips of pandemic in 2020, Taiwan donated a million surgical masks to Poland for front-line medical personnel. The Polish Office in Taipei similarly stepped into the breach in May this year with a much-appreciated donation of 1,500 protective suits, the ministry added.

Taiwan and Poland are like-minded partners sharing the values of freedom, democracy, respect for human rights and rule of law, the MOFA said, adding that it will continue working with the EU member state in deepening friendship and expanding exchanges across the board.

Poland’s Foreign Ministry said Sept. 4 in a statement that international solidarity and mutual support are crucial in strengthening the global response to the pandemic. The donation is another example of bilateral cooperation, and helping step up Taiwan’s vaccination efforts is in the interests of all, the ministry added.

In a tweet on its official Twitter account, the MOFA said “#Poland’s donation of 400K #COVID19 vaccine doses to #Taiwan has landed. We're touched by this magnanimous gesture, extend a heartfelt thanks to the government & people of the #EU member state. Cooperation & solidarity will see us overcome the pandemic. Yes! #PolandCanHelp.”

The MOFA also tweeted “We sincerely thank the government & people of #Poland for donating 400K #COVID19 vaccine doses to #Taiwan. The generous & timely gesture bolsters the global response to the pandemic. It also underscores the deep friendship between our people & strength of bilateral relations.” (SFC-E)
