The New Southbound Policy—Indian Students as Market Navigators seminar was held Nov. 25 in Taipei City as part of government efforts to expand people-to-people exchanges with NSP target country India, according to the Ministry of Foreign Affairs.

Commissioned by the MOFA and organized by Taipei-based Taiwan-India Business Association, the one-day event served to connect local businesses with Indian students pursuing tertiary education in the country. Around 70 people participated in the seminar, with high-profile attendees including Deputy MOFA Minister Tien Chung-kwang and Gourangalal Das, director-general of India-Taipei Association.

In his opening remarks, Tien said the ministry is committed to assisting Taiwan firms that wish to expand their presence in India and recruit professionals familiar with the two countries’ cultures and languages. Combining the tremendous market potential in the South Asian nation with Taiwan’s technological prowess is sure to prove a win-win proposition for both sides, he added.

Echoing Tien’s remarks, Das said Taiwan is a place where dreams come true for many Indian students, adding such events can help maximize opportunities to work together for mutual benefits.

According to the MOFA, the seminar was arranged in response to changes in the economic and political landscape of the Indo-Pacific that have prompted supply chain restructuring around the wrold. Taiwan firms are eager to capitalize by expanding their reach in the post-pandemic era, it added.

A key plank in the government’s national development strategy, the NSP aims to enhance Taiwan’s agricultural, business, cultural, education, tourism and trade ties with the 10 Association of South East Asian Nations member states, six South Asian countries, Australia and New Zealand. (SFC-E)
