Tainan is ranked number seven on the 2018 Top Asia Destinations on the Rise recently announced by the world’s largest travel website TripAdvisor. The listed destinations are selected by evaluating feedback on the website from billions of travelers in the past year, such as comments and ratings on hotels, tourist sites, and restaurants at the destination. Increases in visitor searches and willingness to book accommodations and/or services at the destination are also factors. As the oldest city in Taiwan, Tainan, with its friendly and hospitable locals, has plenty of tourism resources to offer, including over thousands of temples within this “capital of the gods”, three national scenic areas, and a wide selection of local delicacies. The city also provides a diverse array of accommodation choices so all travelers can easily find a place to stay that is within their budget. And these are reasons why travelers like Tainan so much. Furthermore, the Tainan City Government Tourism Bureau makes sure that Tainan has lots of printed and digital media exposure in Hong Kong, Japan, and Korea and other places to introduce Tainan to more international visitors: for example, launching relevant promotions in various types of media and press, setting ads on buses, and placing advertisements and flyers at airports and travel agencies.
After hearing Tainan made the list, Tainan City Government Tourism Bureau Director-General Sue Wang commented that Tainan is the place of origin of Taiwan’s culture and history. Tainan encompasses a wide area and has bountiful bountiful and diverse tourism resources. The city is also the first in Taiwan to be officially declared as a tourism location and has received outstanding recognition for providing hospitable accommodations. The Tourism Bureau has been collaborating with Tripadvisor since 2016 and is the first in Taiwan to do so. In 2017, Tainan launched the “Neighborhoods in Tainan” webpage in Mandarin Chinese, English, and Japanese. International travelers can save time and costs by using the webpage to quickly learn more about the different neighborhoods and features of respective itineraries and plan their own trip before coming to Tainan. The Tainan webpage has attracted the attention of over millions of international travelers, further spreading the idea of "If you never visited Tainan, you never really visited Taiwan".
