Population now stands at 93.7 million, according to General Office for Population and Family Planning.
Vietnam’s population is estimated to reach 94.7 million by the end of this year, the Vietnam News Agency has reported, citing figures from the General Office for Population and Family Planning (GOPFP) under the Ministry of Health.
The Office told a recent conference that the population currently stands at 93.7 million; the 13th-largest globally and the third-largest in Southeast Asia.
The GOPFP reported that more than 1.3 million babies were born last year. Hanoi led in birth numbers, with over 117,000, almost double the nearly 60,000 registered in Ho Chi Minh City.
With life expectancy rising, Vietnam faces a challenge from an aging population in terms of employment, healthcare, and social security, requiring solutions to improve quality of life for the elderly.
