On 17 July 2018, Representative Francis Kuo-Hsin Liang hosted a welcome dinner for the students from the five Taiwan senior high schools and five Singapore junior colleges that were participating in the 35th R.O.C. - Singapore Student Exchange Program.
In his address, Representative Liang pointed out that the exchange program has seen the participation of over 5,500 students over its 35 years. Whilst Singapore students have consistently topped global education rankings, Taiwan students have always excelled at international invention and innovation fairs hosted in cities such as Nuremberg and Geneva. Additionally, there are many talented Taiwanese youths who are highly creative in the arts and music. Representative Liang, therefore, encouraged participating Singapore students who are visiting Taiwan at the end of the year to observe the creative spirit of the Taiwanese youths.
A total of 60 students from Taipei Municipal Jianguo High School, Taipei First Girls High School, Taipei Jingmei Girls High School, Taipei Municipal Fuxing Senior High School and Taipei Municipal Chong-Cheng Senior High School participated in this year’s exchange program. Participating schools in Singapore included Hwa Chong Institution, Raffles Institution, Victoria Junior College, National Junior College and Temasek Junior College. Students from both sides put up various entertaining performances for the audience which comprised principals and teachers from participating schools and officials from the Taipei Representative Office in Singapore.
