A Taiwan Connect event took place in Chennai in the afternoon of Saturday, September 22nd, 2018 to promote awareness of Taiwan and its potential to become one of India's best business partners. It coincided with the launching and first meeting of the South India-Taiwan Business Council with the presence of over 100 high-calibre participants from the 5 states in South India, including Bengaluru, even Surat in Gujarat, Kolkata in West Bengal, and Mauritius.
This event was co-sponsored by the Taipei Economic and Cultural Center in Chennai and the Surana & Surana International Law Firm with an aim to set up a platform for bridging businessmen from both India and Taiwan to get to know each other, and more importantly, to share information on trade and investment opportunities in both countries. To achieve these objectives Dr. Vinod Surana elaborated the technological advantages in Taiwan, the democratic similarities to India and the golden opportunities for entrepreneurs in both countries to engage each other in wide cope of industries as as to join hands in their national development endeavours.
Director-General Charles Li of TECC in Chennai, the Chief Guest, encouraged the participants to look into the technological standard and product quality that Taiwanese companies develop and manufacture both in South India and Taiwan, and to identify the most suitable partners to work with, notable in green energy, mechanical automation, electronic manufacturing, health and hospital equipment, etc. with the convergence of India's Look East and Taiwan's New Southbound Policy initiatives.
Mr. Dave Tsai, Director of Taitra office in Chennai also introduced the services Taitra offers to Indian businessmen and the essential functions it conducts to help bridge the trade and investment relations between South India and Taiwan. Mr. Sumit Bothra, CEO of Inspiredge, shared with the audience with his personal business experience with Taiwanese partners and offered his thoughts about how to do business with Taiwan. Mr. Sameer Mehta, CEO of Mehta Hospitals, offered his felicitations and highly recommended the participants to engage actively with Taiwanese partners both in trade and investment to take the best economic advantages that India and Taiwan possess. Their briefings and remarks were informative, educational and well-received.
The first Taiwan Connect was concluded with Q&A, playing of the National Anthem of both countries and high tea. Feedbacks from the participants are generally positive and it is suggested to have similar events in Bengaluru and Mumbai later in the year.
