On the morning of Thursday, 28 March 2019, Director-General of TECC in Chennai, Mr. Charles Li was invited as the Chief Guest to grace the 1st year College Day Celebration of Avichi College of Arts and Science, a newly emerged educational institute in Chennai and a part of AVM Rajeswari Educational Trust. The dais was shared by Mr. AVM K. Shanmugam, Secretary of AVM Rajeswari Educational Trust, Correspondent of Avichi College of Arts and Science, and Major Dr. I. Babu Rathinam, Principal of Avichi College of Arts and Science.
As welcoming the invocation, the college students performed traditional dance. Principal Major Dr. I. Babu Rathinam delivered the Welcome Address and presented the Annual Report of the College in the academic year 2018-2019. He illustrated the several programs, workshops and seminars conducted by its various departments and several clubs activities in the campus and students achievements both in academic as well as in sports. Then he presented a brief report of the students’ regular industrial visits as part of their extracurricular activities to many sites such as Ashok Leyland, Chennai Port Trust, Parle-G and Coca-Cola industries, etc.
The Presidential Address was given by Mr. AVM K. Shanmugam. He introduced the background of the Chief Guest Director-General of TECC, Mr. Charles Li. He also shared his experience and observation in Taiwan and its beautiful environment. He indicated how punctual and hardworking people are in Taiwan. He advised the students to follow the time and be punctual in every work and anywhere which would lead to the success. Further, he introduced Ms. Aswini Kumar, Intern-cum-Assistant to Director-General Charles Li, who is about to pursue her Ph.D. in Taiwan and invited her to share a few words about her success and educational journey.
Whilst addressing the gathering, Director General Charles Li had elucidated about Taiwan and the diverse opportunities spawn in Taiwan for the students. He emphasized the significance of Ancient Tamil Language, the Tamilian culture and its iconic literature “Thirukkural” and advised the students to preserve this unique culture. Also he shared his interest on two epics of India the Ramayana and the Mahabharata which depict the deep image of the ancient Indian society and values that still prevails. He interpreted the words of great philosopher Swami Vivekananda on education and appreciated the vision of this college giving importance to the holistic education. He then explained the cultural affinity between India and Taiwan emphasizing the strong linkage on Buddhism.
He encouraged the students to study hard and cited about the great opportunities on students exchange and to pursue their higher education as well as job in Taiwan. As the highlight of the event, Director-general Li was invited to distribute the awards and certificates to the students who have successfully achieved in academic, competitions and sports.
