The Taipei City Government’s Department of Cultural Affairs promotion of “Taipei City’s Cultural Creative Industry Foster Project” has centered around “TAIPEI corners,” utilizing its brand image to enter international markets and highlight Taipei’s unique culture and creativity. From Oct. 17 to 21, “TAIPEI corners” is heading to “Style Bangkok Fair 2019,” the benchmark of Asia’s design industry. With “TAIPEI corners” leading the way, 12 other Taiwan brands are also going international in search of business opportunities in ASEAN markets.
After receiving four awards for excellence at DESIGN TOKYO this June during Design Tokyo’s exhibition, “TAIPEI corners” is due to enter Asia’s biggest design expo. Businesses participating in this event include FERN ONLY, PARSEC DESIGN, Desk+1, Yuan Di, The Shepherd Workshop, Mr. Sci Science Factory, TAGather Goods, Paper Shoot, Binary Pottery, The Red House, buyMood and C JEAN from Songyan Creative Hub, and other exclusive brands. Through local experiences and cultivation of lifestyle aesthetics, these brands are transforming and pushing south Taiwan’s New Age design products, in the hopes of creating more momentum.
Another highlight of the exhibition is the extension of collaboration between the Creative Economy Agency, CEA, and the designers from the 2019 Tai-Thai Design Collaboration Project. With “Material in Motion” as its subject, four sets of Tai-Thai design collaboration brands combine craftsmanship and technology to break borders and create innovative products to be officially released on the market in Bangkok.
Taiwan creative digital camera brand “Paper Shoot” worked with Thai design team “THINKK Studio” to produce “Thinkk & Shoot”— a lifestyle environmentally friendly camera centered around the concept of “design.” Designers also combined Taiwan’s skills in electron optics and Thailand’s craft designs to create “a camera no one has ever seen before.” The camera’s outer casing breaks through the restrictions of natural materials, and features four-color filters, time-lapse photography programs, and ten-second short frequency filming to bring to you a never-before filming experience!
Taiwan’s “FabCraft Design Lab,” which is famous for its 3D pottery-making skills, collaborated with experimental embroidery design company “ease Studio” to create “Bonding Boundary.” The resulting product looks sleek and simple; they show intricate details under the light. The project started from the experimentation of materials to the creation of 3D products that combine porcelain with embroidery, simultaneously comprising the ability to illuminate and also the beauty of art.
It’s suitable for dining rooms, entrances of homes or business spaces, and more. Both these products are sold not only at “TAIPEI corners” but also at various places in Taiwan and Thailand. This collaboration breaks through the traditional way of placing orders by making it an international exchange between creative realization and business application. This will rejuvenate and transform the economic market of creativity.
Songshan Cultural and Creative Park and the Creative Economy Agency are scheduled to host a “
Paper Shoot Kids Workshop-Charoenkrung Little Photographer” and a “Tai-Thai Design Talk” on Oct. 20 at Thailand Creative & Design Center (TCDC). Tai-Thai designers will be present to share their creative process in digital crafts and will showcase products made through Tai-Thai Design Collaboration Project. Through these exchanges and diverse activities aimed at the expansion of industry chain to the consumer market, they hope that Taiwan’s soft power in culture and arts will be introduced to overseas markets faster, and the world will realize Taipei’s potential in the cultural and creativity industry.
