Touch to Reveal MRT-Related Information – In-Station Information Touch Screen “Metro E Touch” Inaugurated

Metro E Touch inside local MRT Station The most frequently visited stations in Taipei City are MRT Taipei Main Station, Zhongshan Station, Ximen Station, Dongmen Station, and Xinbeitou Station. Recently, the In-Station Information Touch Screen “Metro e Touch” has been installed in these stations, providing passengers with station-related information and services. Taipei Rapid Transit Corporation (TRTC) hosted the Touch to Reveal experiential activity at Ximen Station from 14:00-15:00 on Friday, November 22. Participants received a limited-edition charm pouch containing a Taipei Metro one-day pass valued at NT$150.

The event took place in the area opposite the Golden Pillar Meeting Point near the exit 6 of MRT Ximen Station. Passerby were invited to partake in the interactive game, and those who pass the challenge will receive a limited-edition charm pouch containing a Taipei Metro one-day pass valued at NT$150. A total of 500 pouches were given away. The charm pouch’s 3 distinct designs are inspired by the theme of praying for blessing, hoping to help the wearer find love, health, and wealth. Entitled Godsend Marriage, Eternal Good Health, and Forthcoming Fortune, the reverse side of the 3 pouch designs form an MRT train when they are placed side by side, demonstrating the uncanny ingenuity of the design.

Through simple touch screen operation, the In-Station Information Touch Screen “Metro e Touch” displays station-related information on the enormous screen for the public’s convenience.

The screen combines 8 major functions: transit map, station information, station location, train schedule, ticket information, transfer information, store introduction, and everyday life information. Details such as the date, time, and weather are also shown at the bottom right corner of the screen. Meanwhile, the information is available in 4 languages (Chinese, English, Japanese, and Korean) to cater to the needs of international tourists.

The screen’s homepage features Google Maps and station map (interchangeable); the transit map contains the MRT network map and information on nearby attractions; station information includes the floor plan of stations and exit information; station location includes maps of regions in the vicinity of the stations and the nearest exits as well as bus information; train schedule includes the departure time of the first and last train and the station timetable; ticket information clearly shows the fare needed to reach various stations; transfer information exhibits YouBike-related details and dynamic information on bus transfers such as bus arrival time; store introduction lists stores near different stations and their information such as photos of selected stores. Furthermore, passengers can scan the QR code with their smartphones to navigate to any store. Lastly, everyday life information links to the official website of the TRTC to provide passengers with all the latest information.

In addition, in order to service tourists, Taipei Metro Ticket e-Shop will be established at Ximen Station and Taipei Main Station, offering 11 forms of payment, 12 languages and 13 types of metro tickets. Foreign travelers are not required to exchange their currency to purchase tickets because they can do so directly at the e-Shop, which provides comprehensive services to fulfill their needs. A total of 11 forms of payment are available including cash, EasyCard, VISA/Mastercard contactless payment, or credit card payment via mobile payment apps such as ApplePay, GooglePay, SamsungPay. Alternatively, passengers may also scan the QR code to make payment using LINEPay, Jkopay, WeChat Pay, or Alipay, etc. to prevent the hassle of insufficient cash. With 12 languages including Chinese (traditional or simplified), English, Japanese, Korean, German, French, Spanish, Malaysian, Thai, Vietnamese, and Indonesian, foreign travelers will be able to purchase tickets effortlessly. With 13 types of empty metro tickets such as the commonly used EasyCard, iPass, iCash, HappyCash, and a variety of Taipei Metro travel passes, travelers may choose the appropriate tickets based on their travel schedule.
