Taiwanese TV series in race for Singapore’s prestigious awards

Up to 26 Taiwanese audiovisual productions have made their way to greater heights by being nominated for 33 categories in Singapore's Asian Academy Creative Awards, one of the most prestigious accolades for creative excellence in the Asia-Pacific region. The winners will be announced in an awards ceremony held on Dec. 5 in Singapore's Victoria Theater.

The nominees include Taiwanese television series "The World Between Us (我們與惡的距離)," "A Taiwanese Tale of Two Cities (雙城故事)," "The Mouse Serves A Guest Tea (老鼠捧茶請人客)," "My Goddess (種菜女神)," "Befriend (人際關係事務所)," "The World Behind the Teenage Psychic (通靈少女背後的神隱世界)," and "Meet Me @1006 (1006的房客)."

Highly acclaimed crime drama "The World Between Us," a fictional series about the aftermath of a mass-shooting in a Taipei movie theater that involves the shooter, victims, and the victims' relatives, drew high ratings and nearly four million viewers in Taiwan when the series first aired in April. "A Taiwanese Tale of Two Cities," meanwhile, is a series featuring two female protagonists — one from the old Taipei neighborhood of Dadaocheng and one raised in the innovative surroundings of San Francisco — who swap homes.

The Asian Academy Creative Awards isn't the only event that Taiwanese delegates are attending in Singapore this month. The Bureau of Audiovisual and Music Industry Development will also lead a delegation representing 32 audiovisual operators and 81 titles to attend the 2019 Asia TV Forum & Market, which will take place at the Lion City's iconic hotel Marina Bay Sands from Dec. 4 to 6.

Furthermore, the Taiwan Pavilion will hold a press conference at Marina Bay Sands from 2 to 4pm on Dec. 4, which will be attended by the cast members and crews of Taiwanese productions.

Following the Dec. 4 conference, a pitching session will take place from 4 to 6pm, aiming to showcase the creativity and originality of Taiwanese audiovisual producers and connect Taiwan's film and television industries with funding opportunities from around the world. A total of 7 television series, 2 animated films, and 7 audiovisual operators from Taiwan have signed up for the event.
