President Tsai: Taiwan to donate surplus masks to hard-hit countries by COVID-19
Share
President Tsai on April 1, 2020 delivered a speech on Taiwan’s fight against COVID-19 and its willingness to cooperate with other countries in three areas to help contain the virus spread. First is to donate 10 million face masks to support medical workers in certain countries where the COVID-19 outbreak is particularly severe. Later on, Taiwan will give even more support to the international community based on the domestic production capacity.
Second is Taiwan’s assistance in pharmaceuticals. Clinical research in some countries has shown that quinine can help treat COVID-19 patients with mild symptoms. The government has therefore asked firms to increase quinine production to give those countries in need appropriate support.
Third is technological support. Taiwan will share experiences from its domestic electronic quarantine system that utilizes big data analysis for interested countries to accurately trace the contact history of confirmed cases. Public and private hospitals in Taiwan will also continue to use video-conferencing to share their disease prevention approaches and technologies with countries that need help.
