New Delhi-based senior journalist Jagdish N. Singh called on the democratic countries in the world to support Taiwan’s bid to join the World Health Organization (WHO) in an article published on American think tank Gatestone Institute website on April 30, 2020.
Mr. Singh said Taiwan, despite having the elements of statehood including land, population, government and sovereignty, is not a member of the WHO and even excluded from the world body’s emergency meeting amid the global COVID-19 outbreak. The main hurdle is the People’s Republic of China’s opposition, he added.
He continued to say that, however, given China’s refusal to be transparent on the COVID-19 information and that China has proven it is not friend, all democratic governments should come together to back Taiwan’s bid and also develop a strategy to make China no longer able to stop Taiwan’s entry into the WHO.
