Welcome to the online edition of the 2020 Taipei book fair

The 2020 Taipei International Book Exhibition (TiBE) has been moved online and readers can now experience the grand expo from the comfort of their own homes starting May 15. Themed "New Horizons of Reading Online," the exhibition will be presented in four major sections — "Themed Exhibitions Online," "Reading Salons Online," "Online Book Show," and "Reading News" — that encompass six themed exhibitions and more than 500 videos and 1,000 books.

The "Themed Exhibitions Online" section will be presenting the six themed exhibitions of "Food in Federico Fellini's Drawings," "2020 TiBE Book Awards," "Golden Butterfly Awards 2020," "Let’s Go! Explore Museums," "Taiwan Art History in the Comics," and "Recommended Titles for Elementary and Junior High Students."

"LET'S GO: Explore Museums," a joint effort by seven museums affiliated with the Ministry of Culture, is an exhibition aiming to showcase the publications of cultural institutions at the book fair. It is accompanied by the "Taiwan Art History in the Comics" exhibition, which was curated by the National Taiwan Museum of Fine Arts to present how Taiwanese comic artists construct the personalities, traits, and movements of their characters to promote Taiwan's art history through the lens of technology and comics.

The "Reading Salons Online" section is split into two parts — "TiBE Selections" and "Publisher Recommendations." "TiBE Selections" will showcase 28 author meetings and salon events in online video format, including interviews with TiBE Awards laureates, well-known authors, illustrators, and comic artists. Some of the authors will hold book readings or share their personal tips on how to weather the coronavirus pandemic.

International authors such as Emmanuel Lepage, Éric Vuillard, Jan Mohnhaupt, and Ronen Steinke will also be introducing and reading their own works. New videos will be uploaded online every day during the exhibition period of May 15 through June 30.

The featured genres of the digital Taipei book fair will range from prose, fiction, and field research to children's books, comics, music, and memoirs. The "Publisher Recommendations" section will also offer over 500 videos promoting select titles and authors recommended by participating publishing houses, giving readers a chance to explore new literary horizons.

The "Online Book Show" section will present photos and introductions of more than 1,000 highlighted publications, providing readers with a quick-and-easy method to find the most recommended books from publishers of different fields and explore new genres and book selections.

The "Reading News" section will share information about reading activities and book launches held by publishing houses, bookstores, and arts and cultural associations in different Taiwanese cities during the period of the online book fair.

By making Asia's largest annual book fair available online, TiBE aims to help spread the joy of reading across the world during the COVID-19 crisis.
