Taiwan’s donation of 1 million surgical masks and 100,000 N95 masks were handed over by Mr. Francis Kuo-Hsin Liang, Representative of the Taipei Representative Office in Singapore, to Ms. Tan Li San, Chief Executive Officer (CEO) of the National Council of Social Service (NCSS), on 22 June 2020.
“In April, Taiwan’s Ministry of Foreign Affairs (MOFA) donated 10 million face masks as part of our first large-scale humanitarian assistance initiative in the wake of the coronavirus outbreak. This also included 100,000 surgical masks that were donated to Singapore. We value our friendship with Singapore and in the spirit of looking out for each other, especially during this challenging time, MOFA has decided to make a second donation of 1 million surgical masks and 100,000 N95 masks two months after our first donation,” remarked Representative Francis Liang.
"We thank the Taipei Representative Office in Singapore, for the kind donation of 1 million surgical masks and 100,000 N95 masks to the social service sector. These masks will be distributed to our frontline social service providers and their service users like seniors living in nursing homes run by our member agencies. The donation will help our sector in the fight against COVID-19,” said Ms. Tan, CEO of NCSS.
Representative Francis Liang expressed his thanks to the NCSS for its assistance in distributing the masks to nursing homes where they would help protect senior home residents who are a vulnerable group at a higher risk of getting a severe infection.
He also hoped that the COVID-19 outbreak will be over soon, so that people's lives can get back to normal as fast as possible. With the gradual resumption of social and community activities, Representative Francis Liang looked forward to a return to prosperity and people-to-people exchanges and visits between Taiwan and Singapore.
The long-standing bonds of friendship and cooperation between Singapore and Taiwan have stood the test of time. Taiwan cherishes its friendship with Singapore, and is committed to working together with Singapore for a better tomorrow and enhancing the well-being of the people of both sides. (E)
