On August 2, the Central Epidemic Command Center (CECC) announced one new confirmed imported case of coronavirus disease 2019 (COVID-19) in Taiwan. The case (Case #475) is an over 20-year-old female who came to Taiwan from the Philippines on July 31 to visit her relatives. The female case had no symptoms when entering Taiwan on July 31. After she had her specimen collected at the airport, her family members drove her to a quarantine hotel for home quarantine. The case developed a slightly elevated temperature on August 1. Infection with COVID-19 was laboratory-confirmed in the case on August 2.

The CECC reported that a cumulative total of 81,932 cases related to COVID-19 have been reported in Taiwan among which COVID-19 has been ruled out in 80,924. Of these reported cases, infection with COVID-19 was laboratory-confirmed in 475 cases. Of 475 confirmed cases in Taiwan, 383 are imported; 55 are indigenous; 36 are naval crew members aboard the Panshi fast combat support ship, and 1 case has an unclear source of infection.

As summer vacation has begun and is the peak season for travel, the CECC urges the public to maintain social distancing during their trip. The public is also urged to wear masks in elevators, places for entertainment activities, and confined spaces, including cram schools, movie theaters, study centers and karaoke bars.
