1. The horrendous murder of a Malaysian student surnamed Chung studying at a university in southern Taiwan shocked Taiwan society. The government of the Republic of China( Taiwan) attaches great importance to this case. President Tsai Ing-wen expressed her deepest apology to the family of the student and the people of Malaysia. “The incident exposed problems in Taiwan's society that must be thoroughly reviewed so as to ensure that such a tragedy does not happen again, “ President Tsai said. The relevant government agencies are also instructed to fully assist the family in handling follow-up matters.
2. This office is deeply saddened by and regretful about this incident. We have offered our condolences to the family for the loss of their loved one. In the meantime, we have facilitated their travelling to Taiwan at the earliest time and will continue to provide assistance.
3. The longstanding friendship between the people of Taiwan and Malaysia has been profound. We thoroughly understand how Malaysian society, particularly the victim’s family, feel about this criminal case. We earnestly hope that we can get through the ordeal together with each other’s support during this difficult time.
