On December 19, 2011, the United Nations announced October 11 in each year as the International Day of the Girl Child. In support of this day, our nation designated October 11 as ‘Taiwan Girls Day’. In order to promote the spirit of ‘Taiwan Girls Day’, the Ministry of Education (MOE) organized the ‘16-Year-old Taiwanese Girls’ special exhibition from October 7 to 15 in the National Taiwan Science Education Center to illustrate the remarkable achievements of eliminating gender discrimination and promoting gender equality in Taiwan.

This special exhibition demonstrated the images of early Taiwanese girls’ study and life scenes, as well as introduced major events and relevant private organizations that have influenced Taiwan people’s ‘awareness of gender equality’. In addition, the first woman in each domain was also introduced, which encouraged ‘Taiwanese Girls’ and more people to become fearless in expressing themselves. This special exhibition was designed in two parts: interactive audio games, and playing relevant videos of ‘breakthrough gender stereotypes’, which enabled people to understand the relevant knowledge of gender equality in Taiwan through these interesting interactive measures and lively interview topics and content. Moreover, this special exhibition also gathered the award-winning works from competitions of Taiwan Girls Day paintings, four-grid cartoons, posters, storytelling by photos and microfilm handled by the MOE in previous years as a wonderful review.
