CECC confirms 3 more imported COVID-19 cases; cases arrive in the Philippines and Indonesia

On December 26, the Central Epidemic Command Center (CECC) announced three new confirmed imported cases of coronavirus disease 2019 (COVID-19) in Taiwan. Those three new cases arrived in Taiwan from the Philippines (Case#782-783) and Indonesia (case #784).

Case #782 and Case #783 are two Filipino seamen in their 20s. The two seamen came to Taiwan on December 9. After entry, they stayed at a quarantine hotel to undergo quarantine. They haven’t developed any symptoms since arrival. After completing the quarantine period, the company they worked for arranged for them to undergo COVID-19 testing on December 24. Infection with COVID-19 was laboratory-confirmed in the cases on December 26.

Case #784 is an over 20-year-old fisherman from Indonesia. The Indonesian man traveled to Taiwan to work as a fisherman on December 10. After entry, he stayed at a quarantine hotel to undergo quarantine. He hasn’t developed any symptoms since arrival. After completing the quarantine period, he visited the hospital to take a COVID-19 test on December 25. Infection with COVID-19 was laboratory-confirmed in the case on December 26.

The CECC reported that a cumulative total of 123,316 cases related to COVID-19 have been reported in Taiwan among which COVID-19 has been ruled out in 120,923. Of these reported cases, infection with COVID-19 was laboratory-confirmed in 783 cases. Of the 783 confirmed cases, 688 are imported; 56 are indigenous; 36 are naval crew members aboard the Panshi fast combat support ship; 2 are infections on an aircraft; 1 case has unknown sources of infection; and 1 case (Case #530) has been removed (Case #530 is not assigned to any patients). Of the confirmed cases, there have been 7 deaths, and 647 patients have been released from isolation, with the other 129 patients remaining hospitalized in isolation.
