On February 27, the Central Epidemic Command Center (CECC) announced three new confirmed imported cases of coronavirus disease 2019 (COVID-19) in Taiwan. Those three new cases arrived in Taiwan from the United Kingdom (Case #953), Vietnam (Case #954) and the Philippines (Case #955).

Case #953 is an over 20-year-old female from the United Kingdom. The British woman tested positive for COVID-19 in her home country on January 8. She later tested negative twice on February 7 and February 9, respectively. She traveled to Taiwan on February 12. She didn’t experience any symptoms during her quarantine period, and she has remained symptomatic since then. Before completing her quarantine period, she was given a COVID-19 test on February 25. Infection with COVID-19 was laboratory-confirmed in the case on February 27.

Case #954 is an over 20-year-old male sailor from Indonesia. The Indonesian sailor traveled to Taiwan on February 8. He hasn’t experienced any symptoms since arrival. His labor broker arranged for him to visit the hospital to take a self-paid test on February 25. Infection with COVID-19 was laboratory-confirmed in the case on February 27.

Case #955 is an over 30-year-old female migrant worker from the Philippines. The Philippine worker entered Taiwan on February 5. Before completing the quarantine period, she was tested for COVID-19 on February 18, and the test result came back negative. Her labor broker then arranged for her to visit the hospital to take a self-paid test on February 26. Infection with COVID-19 was laboratory-confirmed in the case on February 27.

The CECC reported that a cumulative total of 174,435 cases related to COVID-19 have been reported in Taiwan among which COVID-19 has been ruled out in 172,288. Of these reported cases, infection with COVID-19 was laboratory-confirmed in 954 cases. Of the 954 confirmed cases, 838 are imported; 77 are indigenous; 36 are naval crew members aboard the Panshi fast combat support ship; 2 are infections on an aircraft; 1 case has unknown sources of infection; and 1 case (Case #530) has been removed (Case #530 is not assigned to any patients). Of the confirmed cases, there have been 9 deaths, and 917 patients have been released from isolation, with the other 28 patients remaining hospitalized in isolation.
