In light of the first shipment of Taiwanese pineapples to Australia, the Taiwanese community in Sydney held a celebration dinner on March 31. Director General Fiona Fan attended by invitation and expressed her gratitude of the communities overwhelming support for Taiwanese agriculture.
The granted access of Taiwanese pineapple into Australia underwent vigorous negotiations between governments of both sides that took 5 years to accomplish. Although importation was opened in 2020, the effect of COVID on freight cost delayed the shipment of the much sought after golden fruit. The first ever shipment of Taiwanese pineapples eventually made its way into Australia, it represents more than a simple commerce event, but represents the resilience and unity behind what we call the Taiwan value. Free trade, democracy and compliance of international regulations are all values entailed within the golden fruit that eventually made its way into the free markets of Australia, and that is truly worthy of celebration.
