“From Taiwan, With Love” —5 wheelchairs donated to Pusat Ehsan
Following a series of donation of wheelchairs to the Raja Isteri Pengiran Anak Salem Hospital (RIPAS), PMMPMHAMB Hospital, Tutong, SSB Hospital, Kuala Belait, PIHM Hospital, Temburong, Persatuan Kanak-kanak Cacat Brunei(KACA) and Chung Hwa schools, Taipei Economic and Cultural Office in Brunei Darussalam continues to partner with Taiwan Business Association and Taiwan Graduates Association of Brunei Darussalam to donate 5 Taiwan-produced wheelchairs to Pusat Ehsan on 8 April, 2021. These wheelchairs will be presented to Datin Noraini, Executive Trustee of Pusat Ehsan, jointly by Representative Andrew H.C. Lee, and Chairman Yap Ong Chuan of the Association.
Datin Noraini warmly welcomed the visit of Representative Lee, and expressed her heartfelt gratitude to the donation. She briefed the center's functions and operations, historical evolution, service targets, and expressed willingness to establish a platform for exchanges and cooperation with its counterparts in Taiwan. Then she accompanied Representative Lee was escorted to tour the center. Representative Lee expressed his respect to the staff and volunteers for their enthusiasm, devotion and services, and committed to facilitating the establishment of bilateral working relationship between children's welfare institutions in Brunei and Taiwan.
Inspired by the commonly shared value and faith, and cultural tradition of generosity and sharing between Taiwan and Brunei, together with the Associations we are thrilled to be at the forefront of charity works and facilitating benevolent actions to fund the wheelchairs. Taipei Economic and Cultural Office, Taiwan graduates Association and Taiwan Business Association had previously collected 174 wheelchairs in total. After the donations of the 152 wheelchairs to 4 public hospitals, KACA and Chung Hwa schools, this Office has been in touch with Pusat Ehsan to arrange the handover of wheelchairs. This concerted effort fully demonstrates the friendship of the people from Taiwan as well as the corporate social responsibility practiced by entrepreneurs affiliated with the Associations.
Taiwan has a long history of humanitarianism and Taiwan is well-positioned to repay its debt to the international community by sharing experiences and resources with friendly countries. Given the spread of COVID-19, and to join the Brunei government-led combat against the pandemic, Taipei Economic and Cultural Office has collaborated with the related associations and individuals to conduct these charity donation activities. These donations are indeed a testament to the spirit and value of "Taiwan can help, Taiwan is helping", and will be serving as a catalyst to further enhance existing bilateral relationship between Taiwan and Brunei.
Pusat Ehsan was founded in October, 2000. It aims to combine family networks, caregivers and volunteers, providing special education and training resources, and to provide assistance through education, training and rehabilitation. Children with special needs develop their potential and enable them to live a meaningful life. Pusat Ehsan currently has a branch in Kuala Belait, accommodating a total of 50 staffs and 343 children.
