The 【Multiple Reading Year 2021- New Resident Culture Series- Indonesia】 lecture, organized by The Public Library of Miaoli County, will be held at the lecture center on the library’s 4th floor at 9A.M. on Friday, August 27, 2021. The lecturer, Indonesian teacher Tsai-ni Lin, will present the “Parent-Child Tea Party Story Time of Indonesia.” The 【Multiple Reading Year 2021- New Resident Culture Series- Thailand】 will be held at the Zhunan Township Jia-xing Community Center at 9A.M. on Saturday, September 4, 2021. The lecturer, Thai new resident teacher Feng Su-hua, will present the “Parent-Child Tea Party Story Time of Thailand.” The 【Multiple Reading Year 2021- New Resident Culture Series- Vietnam】will be held at the San-yi New Resident Learning Center at 9A.M. on Wednesday, September 8, 2021. The lecturer, Vietnamese new resident teacher Pei An-hua, will present the “Parent-Child Tea Party Story Time & Food Culture Experience Camp of Vietnam.” We welcome all residents, new and established, to register for these tea party story times (new residents will enjoy priority registration) and experience foreign culture and foreign food together with us this summer!
The main purpose of these events is to introduce the cultures of Indonesia, Thailand, and Vietnam. By using the various parent-child reading resources that the library offers, as well as a food experience to enjoy the desserts and snacks of southeast Asian countries, we hope to help readers realize and address the misunderstandings that can be caused by culture differences. We also expect the events to help readers accept cultures and friends of different groups with more tolerance and love to jointly create a new and diverse community.
Governor Xu Yao-chang appreciates the importance of reading, as well as the cultural development of multiple groups living in Miaoli County. To raise residents’ understanding of multiple cultures, The Public Library of Miaoli County has organized various cultural series of events to promote high quality multicultural lectures of particular interest to the public.
New resident families and residents interested in the languages and cultures of Indonesia, Thailand, and Vietnam are invited to register for these lectures. You will be able to learn about new resident cultures from their daily lives while understanding the culture literacy of different groups by attending parent-child story time events, while learning to accept and appreciate multiple groups or cultures and promoting interest in reading and learning.
If pandemic restrictions have not yet eased at the time of event, the lectures will be held online instead.
