Joint Debut of Mayors’ Summit & Leading Women Summit to be Held on March 22 at the Largest Smart City Tradeshow of the Year

Smart City online and Mayors’ Summit onlineThis year, the Smart City Summit & Expo (SCSE), long regarded as the largest smart city tradeshow in Asia, is taken to the next level as the top scale smart city in the world. The show’s Smart City Mayors’ Summit has even become the largest smart city summit that engages the largest number of city leaders, a significant accomplishment since Taipei City Government joined hands with Taipei Computer Association (TCA) to organize the event in 2016. The 2022 edition will debut as a twin event, which will take place at Taipei Nangang Exhibition Center, Hall 2 from March 22nd to 25th under the topic of “Digital Transformation Takes Smart Cities to New Heights”. The 4-day tradeshow covers a number of highlights including Smart City Mayors’ Summit, Leading Women Summit, “GO SMART Day”, and Taipei City Pavilion. The organizers expect to welcome municipal representatives from over 186 cities across 33 countries at the event, which is one of the most iconic smart city platforms for exchanging the experiences.

Jointly organized by Taipei City Government, Taipei Computer Association, Taoyuan City Government, and Kaohsiung City Government, the SCSE 2022 in Taipei will welcome visitors from March 22nd to 25th. Taipei City Mayor Ko Wen-je said the easing restrictions on international borders indicate that the COVID-19 is becoming a more influenza-like illness around the world, which allows this year’s SCSE to expand the scale of the event once again. Despite rapidly becoming the first choice among smart city tradeshows for city leaders, SCSE was limited to engaging international delegates through online platforms in the past two years due to the pandemic. Fortunately, this year Taiwan’s government gave the green lights by approving a short-term “bubble” program for business travelers – along with city leaders from overseas – to visit the SCSE. These municipal representatives are excited to visit Taipei, and the restoration of such international networking on the face-to-face level means a lot to Taipei.

The Smart City Mayors’ Summit is conducted in two hybrid sessions, involving 181 registered city representatives from 75 cities across 34 countries who are either attending online or physically at the venue. Representing Taipei, Mayor Ko Wen-je and Deputy Mayor Huang Shan-shan will deliver keynote speeches and presentations at the Mayors’ Summit.

At the same time, Taipei debuts the “Smart City Leading Women Summit” this year, hosted by Deputy Mayor Huang Shan-shan. The five attending city leaders include Magistrate April Yao of Taitung County, Magistrate Chang Li-shan of Yunlin County, Magistrate Hsu Chen-Wei of Hualien County, Mayor Geraldine Lendor-Gabriel of Castries, Saint Lucia, and Mayor Sheran Constance Palacio of Belmopan City, Belize. Being the new spotlight, the Leading Women Summit focuses on the city’s digital transformation driven by women.

The 2022 “GO SMART Day” will be held as both in-person and as a live online event. In addition to the 2022 GO SMART Award ceremony, the General Assembly plans to invite the winning team to attend networking activities that also welcomes non-members of GO SMART to join and explore visions of global smart cities.

The Taipei City Pavilion is showcasing tens of innovative applications and services in themed divisions according to its “1+7 fields”. It is the first time for the organizers to combine the strength and beauty of electronic arts and big data, offering the audience a chance to learn more about this open and inclusive smart city from a data-driven angle. This year’s exhibition continues to be held both offline and online. The online activities will be accessible to the public through the end of year.

The 2022 SCSE aims to create more comprehensive smart services via the idea exchanges among global cities. You are welcome to take part in the event this year. Don’t miss out! Read more updates about the event at: https://smartcityonline.org.tw.
