Mayor shaking hands with people at the airportOn July 5, Mayor Chiang Wan-an led a delegation from Taipei City Hall on a trip to Singapore. The 4-day-3-night trip is the first official visit abroad for Chiang since entering office. He shared his primary objectives for the trip with the media during a press event at the airport.

The mayor noted that he is happy to accept the invitation from the Singapore Trade Office in Taipei to visit the city state in Southeast Asia. Traveling to Singapore as Taipei’s mayor is especially meaningful. From the perspective of city administrations, he is confident that there are many things Taipei City can learn from Singapore’s experience.

Citing the topic of sustainable development, Chiang pointed out that ensuring sustainability has always been an important issue for the city government. In this domain, the Singaporean government has identified concrete goals and related action plans in the Singapore Green Plan 2030. These include achieving carbon neutrality for 20% of its schools by 2030, boosting the utility rate of public transportation to 75% during peak hours, and making sure that 80% of buildings on the island meet super low energy consumption standards.

As for other areas, the city delegation will also study Singapore’s achievements in the fields of transportation, urban development, sustainable environment, and smart city by visiting the respective agencies and facilities.

At the end of the press conference, the mayor once again expressed his gratitude to the Singaporean authorities for arranging details of the trip and the respective city councilors for joining the city delegation on the visit to Singapore.
