Premier announces end to nationwide classical swine fever vaccinations

:::

After receiving a briefing from the Council of Agriculture on Thursday, Premier Chen Chien-jen announced the end of nationwide classical swine fever vaccinations for Taiwan's hog population, effective July 1, 2023. This milestone builds upon the nation's previous successful eradication of foot-and-mouth disease.

Taiwan is currently one of only two countries in East Asia free of African swine fever, the premier said. Through 24 years of effort, Taiwan has also become one of the few nations in Asia to have eradicated foot-and-mouth disease. The government is now taking further steps to enable Taiwan to become a classical swine fever-free zone where vaccination is not practiced. Once this goal is achieved, Taiwan will become the only nation in Asia free of swine fever, foot-and-mouth disease and African swine fever.
