President Tsai attends opening ceremony of Taipei book fair

The 2024 Taipei International Book Exhibition (TiBE) commenced on Feb. 20 with an opening ceremony graced by the presence of President Tsai Ing-wen, Deputy Culture Minister Lee Ching-hwi (李靜慧), Taipei Book Fair Foundation chairperson Isabella Wu Yun-yi (吳韻儀), Representative Guido Tielman of the Netherlands Office Taipei, and other distinguished guests. 

 

During the ceremony, President Tsai underlined the importance of reading, emphasizing its power to transport people to different worlds and explore the vast sea of knowledge. She described TiBE as a platform for the exchange of various cultures.

 

Additionally, she highlighted the Ministry of Culture’s (MOC) recent policies concerning the publishing industry, including efforts toward digital transformation, improvements in library book acquisitions, the 1 plus 4 – T-content plan (文化黑潮計畫) for international engagements, and the integration of the Culture Points incentive aimed at encouraging youths to visit the exhibition.

 

The MOC mentioned that the TiBE is joined by 509 publishing houses and companies from Taiwan and 34 countries this year. Furthermore, the exhibition will stage more than 400 sessions of promotional events to encourage to develop reading culture.
