Taipei Economic and Cultural Office in Malaysia, together with the U.S. Embassy in Malaysia, British High Commission in Malaysia, and Australian High Commission in Malaysia, cohosted an international workshop on May 2, 2024. The theme is “Best Practices in the Energy Transition: A GCTF-Affiliated Expert Workshop on Combatting Climate Change”.
VIPs who graced the opening included H.E. Phoebe Yeh, Taiwan’s Ambassador to Malaysia, H.E. Edgard Kagan, US Ambassador to Malaysia, and H.E. Ailsa Terry, British High Commissioner to Malaysia.
Deputy Secretary General Mohamad Razif bin Abdul Mubin of Malaysia’s Ministry of Energy Transition and Water Transformation (PETRA) was invited to deliver a keynote speech on outlining the current situation of the country’s energy transition.
Two speakers from Taiwan presented topics on renewable energy trend as well as Taiwan’s offshore wind policy. They are Dr. Jeng, Ming-Shan, Deputy General Director of Taiwan’s Green Energy and Environment Research Laboratories of Industrial, Technology Research Institute (ITRI), and Ms. Cheng, Ju-Min, Deputy Director of Taiwan’s Energy Administration, Ministry of Economic Affairs.
Around 70 invited guests from Malaysia’s public, private, academic and financial sectors attended the workshop, fostering vibrant exchanges of ideas and perspectives.
Experts from Malaysia, Taiwan, the US, the UK and Australia shared their experiences of technology developments, policies, financing mechanisms and regulatory frameworks that drive the energy transition. The workshop presented a good opportunity for participants to seek possible collaborations on best practices in the energy transition.
