The Grand Medal of Diplomacy was conferred June 13 on American Institute in Taiwan Director Kin Moy by Minister of Foreign Affairs Jaushieh Joseph Wu in recognition of his extensive contributions to fostering bilateral relations.

Moy’s dedication to enhancing the Taiwan-U.S. partnership in such areas as culture, education and people-to-people exchanges are deeply appreciated, Wu said during the ceremony at Taipei Guest House.

Under Moy’s leadership, the new AIT office complex was completed in Taipei City’s Neihu District and inaugurated the previous day. According to the minister, this milestone symbolizes the U.S. government’s enduring commitment to Taiwan.

Other accomplishments during Moy’s tenure include Taiwan’s inclusion in the U.S. Global Entry Program last November, Wu said. Administered by U.S. Customs and Border Protection, the program enables pre-approved and low-risk passport holders to enjoy expedited clearance upon arriving at select ports of entry.

Going forward, Wu said the two sides will continue to closely collaborate on issues of regional and global concern through such platforms as the Global Cooperation Training Framework. A total of 11 capacity building workshops in areas like disaster relief, environmental protection, humanitarian assistance and public health have been staged under the GCTF by Taiwan and the U.S. since 2015.

In response, Moy said he accepted the award on behalf of his colleagues at the AIT. He also thanked Wu and officials at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs for their efforts in forging the robust relationship between the two sides, adding that Taiwan-U.S. cooperation has never been stronger. (CPY-E)
