Dr. Alagu Perumal Ramasamy, Associate Professor of Loyola Institute of Business Administration (LIBA), on March 6, 2019 called on Director-General Mr. Charles Li, Taipei Economic and Cultural Center in Chennai, to present the 2018 annual report of the Indo – International Initiative for Billions of Fruit Trees (IIIBFT). In the past 8 years, he has been promoting the idea of building up a green city by planting fruit trees in collaboration with 120 schools in Chennai City.

Dr. Alagu had completed his Ph.D. degree in the Department of Diplomacy at National Cheng Chi University, Taiwan in 2008 before his return to India. He established the IIIBFT project with the cooperation of teachers and students of over 120 public and private schools in Chennai and as well reached to the other cities in Tamil Nadu.  The students are encouraged to cultivate fruit tree saplings, each school cultivates around 600-1000 plants per year and then the plants have been planted in suitable locations with the help of another NGO Tree Bank ever since.

Dr. Alagu has been awarded the Taiwan Fellowship for a three-month plastic recycling research project at Tzu Chi University in Hualien County, Taiwan. He is also planning to work on the cultivation of fruit trees project with schools in Hualien with the help of Tzu Chi University and the Bureau of Culture, Hualien County Government while he is in Taiwan. Director Charles Li commended Dr. Alagu's initiative project to promote the fruit planting program along with schoolchildren and teachers to contribute towards the green earth, and promised to introduce necessary network to uphold collaboration between Taiwan and south India on similar project to attain the Sustainable Development Goals.
