The first episode of a TV program showcasing Taiwan’s diverse economy, society and culture is set to air at 8 p.m. on India’s Zee TV Nov. 16.

Co-produced by the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, the show is part of a series themed “Embracing Taiwan” made in partnership with regional broadcasters in New Southbound Policy target countries India, Thailand, Vietnam and the Philippines, with each airing two 30-minute episodes focusing on the nations’ shared traits.

Viewers can get a sneak preview by watching the India trailer on the MOFA’s Trending Taiwan YouTube channel, which highlights high-tech devices and futuristic agriculture.

In an interview for the program, Minister of Foreign Affairs Jaushieh Joseph Wu said the NSP has helped advance ties between the two countries. Bilateral investment has seen a notable uptick under the policy, with Taiwan-based companies pouring around US$360 million into India last year, he added.

According to the minister, more people than ever are visiting Taiwan from NSP target countries. Statistics from the Ministry of Education also show that the total number of Indian students studying at local universities reached 2,398 in 2018, up 56 percent year on year.

A key plank in the government’s national development strategy, the NSP seeks to deepen Taiwan’s agricultural, business, cultural, education, tourism and trade ties with the 10 Association of Southeast Asian Nations member states, six South Asian countries, Australia and New Zealand. (YCH-E)
