Taiwan won top honors for best meetings and incentives destination in Asia and most innovative destination marketing at the 2020 Stella Awards, according to the Bureau of Foreign Trade under the Ministry of Economic Affairs Oct. 20.

The prizes are a reward for government efforts in building Taiwan into a top destination for the global meetings, incentives, conventions and exhibitions industry, BOFT Director-General Cynthia Kiang said.

According to Kiang, most of the MICE calendar around the world has been canceled this year due to the COVID-19 pandemic. Thanks to farsighted measures implemented by the government, however, Taiwan has been able to host events since June, including Semicon Taiwan, one of the world’s largest semiconductor industry exhibitions.

The government will continue to leverage Taiwan’s advanced facilities, convenient transportation networks and vibrant economy to attract more MICE events and business travelers when the pandemic eases, Kiang said.

Organized by Singapore-based Northstar Meetings Group, the Stella Awards comprises 28 prizes spreading across eight categories honoring excellence in the MICE industry. Finalists are determined by industry professionals during an open voting period, according to the group’s website. (SFC-E)
