The outcome of the summit between U.S. President Donald J. Trump and North Korean leader Kim Jong-un June 12 in Singapore is welcomed by Taiwan, according to the Ministry of Foreign Affairs.

Trump and Kim reached a consensus and signed a document on matters relating to denuclearization of the Korean Peninsula and U.S.-North Korea relations, the MOFA said. The meeting is of great significance to peace and stability in the Asia-Pacific as it creates new opportunities for resolving long-standing issues in a peaceful manner, the ministry added.

According to the MOFA, Taiwan highly commends the efforts by both sides in reducing tensions on the Korean Peninsula and in East Asia through dialogue. It is hoped that all parties will take into account the interests of other nations in the region and work to completely denuclearize the Korean Peninsula and build a sustainable and lasting peace, the ministry said.

The MOFA said it will continue monitoring related developments and enhancing exchanges between Taiwan and related countries, adding that the nation is willing and able to work with the global community in advancing peace, prosperity and stability throughout the region. (SFC-E)
