The first episode of a TV show showcasing Taiwan’s diverse economy, society and culture is set to air during prime time on CNN Philippines Nov. 3.

Co-produced by the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and CNN Philippines, the production is part of a series themed “Embracing Taiwan” made in partnership with regional broadcasters in four New Southbound Policy target countries, with each airing two 30-minute episodes focusing on the nations’ shared traits.

Viewers can get a sneak peek by watching the Philippines trailer on the MOFA’s Trending Taiwan YouTube channel, featuring pop-up music venues and night market delights.

In an interview for the program, head of Taipei Economic and Cultural Office in the Philippines Michael Peiyung Hsu said the two sides have many cultural similarities including caring, friendly and optimistic peoples. This is why exchanges between the countries have flourished in recent years, he added.

Other shows in the series are scheduled for broadcast Nov. 9 on Vietnam’s Ho Chi Minh City Television, Nov. 10 on Thailand’s Channel 5, and Nov. 16 on India’s Zee TV.

A key plank in the government’s national development strategy, the NSP seeks to deepen Taiwan’s agricultural, business, cultural, education, tourism and trade ties with the 10 Association of Southeast Asian Nations member states, six South Asian countries, Australia and New Zealand. (YCH-E)
