Digital Dialogue Public Forum on Taiwan-U.S. Security Cooperation was staged Nov. 7 in Taipei City by the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and American Institute in Taiwan.
 
Moderated by Digital Minister Audrey Tang, the daylong event reviewed the results of the AIT’s third digital dialogue in which citizens shared ideas and opinions on how the like-minded partners can advance bilateral relations while building a more secure Taiwan. It is another example of outstanding cooperation between the two sides in the 40th year of the Taiwan Relations Act.
 
MOFA Vice Minister Tsao Li-jey said during his opening address that expanded Taiwan-U.S. security exchanges bolster the country’s defensive capabilities, deter possible military threats, and safeguard peace and prosperity across the strait and Indo-Pacific.
 
The forum is an invaluable platform for Taiwan and the U.S. to engage with the people on a critical aspect of the bilateral relationship while jointly forging a brighter and safer future, Tsao added.
 
According to Tsao, the government is rock-solid on its commitment to defending the 23 million people of Taiwan’s freedom and democratic way of life. Taiwan will continue working with the U.S. to strengthen traditional and nontraditional security ties via a variety of farsighted initiatives like the Global Cooperation and Training Framework, he said.
 
AIT Director Brent Christensen thanked Tsao for supporting the event and praised Tang for her use of innovative digital platform tools in garnering public input on Taiwan-U.S. security cooperation. The 10 ideas receiving the most attention during the process will be discussed and assessed within a framework of issues linked to existing and emerging challenges and tensions, he said.
 
The adoption of asymmetric and innovative approaches to making Taiwan and the Indo-Pacific more resistant to threats posed by China is encouraged and supported by the U.S., Christensen said, adding that this sends a strong message that Taiwan is not alone. (SFC-E)
