Two melt-blown lines for nonwoven fabrics used in producing surgical masks commenced operation July 1 in northern Taiwan’s Taoyuan City, according to the Industrial Development Bureau under the Ministry of Economic Affairs.
 
Owned and managed respectively by locally headquartered Mytrex Health Technologies Inc. and Trimeltech Co. Ltd., the lines are each projected to turn out 2 metric tons of fabric per day. This additional output will help increase Taiwan’s daily mask production by at least 4 million units.
 
The lines, realized under the IDB’s Taiwan Industry Innovation Platform Program, represent the success of public-private sector efforts to combat coronavirus and safeguard the health and well-being of the people. Subsidies totaling NT$20 million (US$ 672,200) were made available to each firm as part of related government support measures.
 
During the Mytrex line commencement ceremony, MOEA Minister Wang Mei-hua said ensuring a stable supply of domestically produced melt-blown nonwoven fabric plays a key role in effectively managing the COVID-19 pandemic. Other attendees included  Deputy Speaker of Legislative Yuan Tsai Chi-chang, IDB Director General Leu Jang-hwa and Taoyuan Mayor Cheng Wen-tsan.
 
Melt-blown nonwoven fabric is a critically important component of high-quality masks. Its porous composition enables the effective filtering of gases and liquids, as well as the absorption of potentially harmful airborne substances.
