MOFA releases ROC (Taiwan) National Day video

A video celebrating Oct. 10 ROC (Taiwan) National Day was released by the Ministry of Foreign Affairs as part of government efforts to promote the country’s economic, diplomatic and coronavirus-combating accomplishments on the international stage.

“Working Together to Lead Taiwan Forward” takes viewers on a 5 minute and 21 second journey through significant achievements in three areas: pandemic response, global cooperation; democracy model, worldwide support; and team Taiwan, pulling together.

The first area is particularly important given the impact of COVID-19, first reported in the Chinese city of Wuhan late last year, on the international community. According to the MOFA, the effectiveness of the Taiwan Model earned the country praise and recognition, as well as facilitated the sharing of essential medical items and know-how with allies and like-minded partners under the banner of Taiwan Can Help.

Concerning the second area, the MOFA said Taiwan garnered global headlines for its robust democracy following the inauguration of President Tsai Ing-wen and Vice President Lai Ching-te in May.

Congratulatory messages flooded in from around the world from heads of state and leaders such as Prime Minister Dean Barrow of Belize, His Majesty King Mswati III of Eswatini, President Alejandro Giammattei of Guatemala, President Jovenel Moise of Haiti, President David Kabua of the Marshall Islands, President Lionel Aingimea of Nauru, President Tommy Remengesau Jr. of Palau, Prime Minister Timothy Harris of St. Kitts and Nevis, and officials from the U.S. Department of State and White House.

Other area highlights include the opening of respective representative office in Taiwan and Somaliland, historic visits to Taiwan by Czech Senate President Milos Vystrcil and U.S. Health and Human Services Secretary Alex Azar, and the trip to Palau by former Vice President Chen Chien-jen and his wife Lo Fong-ping for celebrations marking the 20th anniversary of official relations.

Equally impressive is the third area showcasing progress on developing the six core strategic industries founded on the government’s five-plus-two innovative industries plan. Launched in 2016, the undertaking fosters the development of the biotech and pharmaceuticals, green energy, national defense, smart machinery and Internet of Things sectors, as well as the circular economy and a new paradigm for agricultural development.

The video, which went live Sept. 24, is available via the MOFA’s various social media platforms in Arabic, Chinese, English, Indonesian, Italian, Japanese, French, German, Portuguese, Russian, Spanish, Thai and Vietnamese. (YCH-E)
