Taiwan and Israel inked a memorandum of understanding on volunteer cooperation Dec. 1, further strengthening people-to-people exchanges between the two sides, according to the Ministry of Foreign Affairs.
 
Staged physically in Taipei City and virtually in Tel Aviv, the ceremony was presided over by MOFA Vice Minister Miguel Li-jey Tsao. Participants included pact signatories Paul Kuoboug Chang, head of Taipei Economic and Cultural Office in Tel Aviv; Omer Caspi, representative of Israel Economic and Cultural Office in Taipei; and Lee Li-feng, deputy minister of health and welfare.
 
According to Tsao, the agreement underscores the strength of friendship between Taiwan and Israel, as well as a shared determination to advance cooperation in areas benefiting the people. Volunteers play an integral role in promoting a country’s image on the global stage, he said, adding that the efforts of Taiwan’s young people in this regard are deeply appreciated.
 
In response, Caspi praised the efforts of Taiwan to support youth engagement in international affairs. He said Israel looks forward to welcoming more local volunteers seeking to serve and broaden their horizons.
 
In a tweet on its official Twitter account, the MOFA said “#Taiwan & #Israel are expanding people-to-people exchanges. Vice Minister Tsao & @IsraelTaipei Rep. Caspi took part in the signing ceremony for the MOU on Cooperation in Volunteering. More young people from both sides can give back while experiencing a society far from home!” (YCH-E)
