PO congratulates Biden, Harris on US presidential inauguration

The inauguration of Joe Biden and Kamala Harris as U.S. president and vice president, respectively, is warmly welcomed by the government and people of Taiwan, according the Presidential Office Jan. 21.
 
According to the PO, Taiwan and the U.S. are like-minded partners sharing values such as freedom, democracy and respect for human rights. The two sides, which cooperate in key fields spanning culture, economy, politics and security, enjoy a long-standing friendship and close people-to-people ties, the PO added.
 
President Tsai Ing-wen offers her best wishes to the new Biden administration and anticipates smooth policy implementation, the PO said, adding that she looks forward to further joint collaboration while working with the U.S. as a force for good in the international community.
 
Following the statement, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs extended its congratulations to Biden and Harris. Based on a solid foundation of cooperation, Taiwan-U.S. relations are going from strength to strength, the MOFA said, describing ties as having been elevated to the level of a global cooperative partnership.
 
The government is excited at the prospects of strengthening relations with the U.S., as well as contributing more to promoting peace, security and prosperity in the Indo-Pacific, the MOFA said. (YCH-E)
