Celebrations marking the 70th anniversary of the American Chamber of Commerce in Taiwan were staged Dec. 8, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs said.
 
According to a statement released by the MOFA, the event was co-hosted by the ministry and AmCham Taiwan at the Taipei Guest House. High-profile participants included President Tsai Ing-wen, Foreign Minister Jaushieh Joseph Wu, American Institute in Taiwan Director Sandra Oudkirk and AmCham Taiwan Chairman C.W. Chin, it added.
 
According to President Tsai, Taiwan and the U.S. are essential economic partners with a commitment to further strengthening economic ties through existing and emerging mechanisms. The various cooperation efforts underway will secure the resilience of supply chains while revitalizing the regional and global economies, she added.
 
Echoing Tsai’s remarks, Minister Wu said during his speech that AmCham Taipei adopted its new name “AmCham Taiwan” from 2021, reflecting the chamber’s increasing interaction with the central government and local businesses, as well as its growing membership. Wu also took the opportunity to thank the chamber for its support and assistance in bolstering the economic partnership between the countries.
 
In a tweet on the MOFA's official Twitter account, Wu said “There's no better way for @MOFA_Taiwan to commemorate 70 years of AmCham #Taiwan than co-hosting celebrations at historic Taipei Guest House with @iingwen & #AIT Director Oudkirk in attendance.
