Citizens from Singapore can enjoy Taiwan’s border entry e-Gate service starting July 27, marking a milestone in bilateral relations and underscoring the commitment of both sides to further expanding people-to-people exchanges.
The announcement was made by Deputy Minister of the Interior Wu Jung-hui and Singapore Trade Office in Taipei Rep. Yip Wei Kiat at a ceremony held the same day in Taipei City.
Effective immediately, Singapore citizens with an e-passport valid for more than six months who are above the age of 12, at least 140 cm in height and have no criminal record can enroll in the e-Gate program. The visitors can fill out the Online Arrival Card and register at an immigration counter free at their port of arrival to enjoy the speedy electronic entry service.
According to the ministry, ROC (Taiwan) citizens who are over 6 years old with an e-passport valid for more than six months have been able to use Singapore’s automated clearance service since April 10 this year.
The inclusion of the New Southbound Policy partner country into Taiwan’s e-Gate program is a show of reciprocity, the MOI said, adding that the expedited procedure will make travel more convenient and thus attract more visitors.
According to the MOI, Singapore is Taiwan’s sixth e-Gate partner country, following agreements with Australia, Germany, Italy, South Korea and the U.S. (SFC-E)
