Partnership project agreements paving the way for Taiwan’s expanded participation in global cooperation and humanitarian assistance were inked between the Department of NGO International Affairs under the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and five nongovernmental organizations March 27 in Taipei City.
Signed by department Director General Ming-chi Scott Lai, the pacts are with The Garden of Hope Foundation (GOH), Good Neighbors Taiwan, Noordhoff Craniofacial Foundation, Pu-hsein Educational Foundation and Amitofo Charity Association Executive Committee Board, and Zhi-Shan Foundation Taiwan.
Lai said the scope of the agreements reflects the development of democracy in Taiwan and the country’s increasingly diversified civil society. They also show Taiwan Can Help play a bigger role on the world stage in strengthening core U.N. Sustainable Development Goals pertaining to clean water, education, gender equality, health care and human rights, he added.
The GOH project involves staging human rights advocacy technology camps and hosting the Asian Girls Awards; GNT, constructing wells, water towers and conducting related community education initiatives in Sarjapur, India; NCF, bringing medical professionals from New Southbound Policy target countries to Taiwan for advanced training and to participate in the Asia-Pacific Craniofacial Annual Conference; Pu-hsien, placing Mandarin teachers from Taiwan in seven primary and secondary schools established by Amitofo Care Centers in diplomatic ally Kingdom of Eswatini, Lesotho, Madagascar, Malawi, Mozambique, and Namibia; and Zhi-shan, holding reciprocal educator exchanges between Taiwan and Vietnam for reading promotion and tailored classroom materials development.
A key plank in the government’s national development strategy, the NSP seeks to enhance Taiwan’s agricultural, business, cultural, education, tourism and trade ties with the 10 Association of Southeast Asian Nations member states, six South Asian countries, Australia and New Zealand. (TYT-E)
