The virtual 2020 APEC Economic Leaders’ Meeting (AELM) was held on Friday November 20 from 8:00 PM to 10:50 PM (Taipei time), the first time since APEC’s founding in 1989 that the meeting was conducted via videoconferencing. Leader’s Representative Morris Chang, founder of Taiwan Semiconductor Manufacturing Co., Ltd (TSMC), attended the entire meeting and successfully accomplished the assigned tasks.
The 2020 Asia-Pacific Economic Cooperation (APEC) Ministerial Meeting convened for the first time via videoconference on Monday, with Taiwan represented by Minister without Portfolio John C.C. Deng and Minister of National Development Kung Ming-hsin.
On November 18, more than 100 participants from the APEC region connected online and gathered on-site as the APEC Women-Led Start-Up Accelerator Forum was hosted in 1919 Creative Center. This event served as the grand finale the APEC Women-Led Start-Up Accelerator Initiative, a project launched by Chinese Taipei in APEC co-hosted by Malaysia and Indonesia along the year.
National Development Council Minister Kung Ming-hsin says Taiwan is willing to help APEC member countries with disease prevention and other health issues. Kung was speaking Monday night at the APEC Ministerial Meeting (AMM) via videoconference.
On November 16, the final workshop held under the APEC Women-Led Start-Up Accelerator Initiative was hosted in Taipei. More than 60 participants from the APEC region participated in this grand event, contributing to Asia-Pacific Start-Up connection and development through this virtual workshop. Despite of the COVID-19 pandemic crisis, this event contributed to the empowerment of women entrepreneurs in the field of access to capital and market.

Mr. Chern-Chyi Chen, Deputy Minister, Ministry of Economic Affairs, attended the 26th APEC SME virtual Ministerial Meeting on 23 October and presented on the topic of “Strategy of SMEs’ Digitalization in the New Normal Era.” Mr. Chen shared Chinese Taipei’s experience in responding to SME development during COVID-19.
On October 19, Chinese Taipei and Malaysia hosted the APEC Women-Led Start-Up Accelerator Workshop strengthening the connection of Asia-Pacific women entrepreneurs despite of the current COVID-19 pandemic. More than 40 participants from APEC region participated this grand event with the goal to empower women in the field of access to capital and market.
The Asia-Pacific Economic Cooperation (APEC) online and physical hybrid workshop, “Integrating SMEs and E-commerce in AEO Supply Chain” was held today at the Taipei International Convention Center. Over 100 government, industry and academia representatives from the United States, Australia, New Zealand, Japan, Korea, Thailand, the Philippines, Canada, Chile, Peru, Singapore, Papua New Guinea joined the workshop online across 8 time zones.
