Taipei Economic and Cultural Office in Brunei Darussalam

1 January, 2022

Representative H.C. Andrew Lee of the Taipei Economic and Cultural Office in Brunei Darussalam participated in the annual beach clean up campaign, co-organized by the Taiwanese Business Association in Brunei Darussalam (TBABD) and BLIA SdnBhd at Maura Recreational Beach in conjunction with the new year day of 2022 to show care for Brunei.

It also demonstrates the joint commitment and effort of the Representative Office, TBABD and BLIA SdnBhd

towards a sustainable future by providing an awareness on the importance of recycling and maintaining the beauty and cleanliness of the beaches in the country. Some 40 participants comprising Representative Lee and staff of the Office, members of the Association and friends all rolled up their sleeves to restore the coastal ecosystem and promote awareness for the world’s shared ocean. A total of some 50 bags of trash and marine debris were collected.

Representative Lee praises the TBABD and BLIA SdnBhd

for their collective efforts and hard work to launch beach clean and mountain clean activities over the years and thanked participants present for playing a part to support the community in ensuring Brunei’s coastline remains free of waste for a cleaner world. The office will continue to actively take part in meaningful activities of this kind to show the love for the land of Brunei and the importance of environment protection.

The event is aimed at tackling beach pollution and reducing the number of plastic litters entering the oceans. Beach pollution is an environmental threat to both humans and wildlife. Plastic litters on the beach often end up in the ocean where marine animals can become entangled or mistaken for food, causing them to choke or starve.
