The 2023 Global Health and Welfare Forum in Taiwan opened Nov. 7 in Taipei City as part of government promotion of global health and welfare benefits for all, according to the Ministry of Health and Welfare.

According to the MOHW, this year’s event is the first held entirely in person since the COVID-19 outbreak. Participants include 23 officials from 14 countries, including Taiwan allies Belize, Eswatini, the Marshall Islands, Nauru, Palau, Paraguay, St. Kitts and Nevis, St. Vincent and the Grenadines and Tuvalu. The event features 38 speakers hailing from Australia, Japan, Malaysia, Slovakia, South Korea, Thailand, the U.K., the U.S. and four other countries.

Held for the 19th year and themed “Health for All: Strengthen Well-being through Collaboration and Empowerment for the Attainment of the New Normal,” the two-day event was opened by Premier Chen Chien-jen and MOWH Minister Hsueh Jui-Yuan. It features three keynote speeches by South Korea’s Yonsei University professor, Ganglip Kim, Slovakia’s St. Elizabeth University of Public Health and Social Science professor Jozef Suvada, and the World Medical Association Council Chair Jung Yul Park.

The MOHW said the event also includes three plenary and four parallel sessions that focus on global health governance topics such as partnership and networking, digital technology and tackling challenges. (SFC-E)
