The Ministry of Foreign Affairs offered congratulations to Li Meng-lian, who was selected for this year’s Young Professional Programme organized by the World Trade Organization, Feb. 3 in Taipei City.

According to the MOFA, YPP offers young international trade or economic and trade law specialists from member nations a one-year internship at the WTO Secretariat. Li is among the 20 participants selected from over 5,500 applicants, reflecting the international competitiveness of Taiwan’s workforce, the ministry said.

WTO Director-General Ngozi Okonjo-Iweala welcomed the cohort Feb. 1 at the organization’s headquarters in Geneva, the MOFA added.

The WTO is one of the major international organizations that Taiwan takes part in. Since the launch of YPP in 2016, a total of four applicants from Taiwan have been chosen to join the project.

The MOFA encourages Taiwan’s people to continue applying to economic and trade programs to cultivate their expertise and help the country enhance its global presence and visibility. (POC-E)
